It occurred to me...

...that maybe people didn't get why this is funny? So now I'll explain because believe you me, it's pretty funny. So, the kids read an article about a 10-year old girl in Liberia who founded an organization to help child soldiers. (Really really awesome right??) Anyway, before my kids read the article, I had them write about this question: Do you think it's true that a little kid can make a difference? Why or why not?

One of my little girls turned in her response. I glanced through it and noticed my name! This of course made me curious so I grabbed it out of the pile. This is what I read:
"I think that kids can make a difference because we are kids and Mrs. Goodman teaches us to make a difference."

I was floored! I was choked up! Here before me was this wonderful moment of why people go into teaching. So then I read on. It continued... "She teaches us to make a difference and similarities too. So that's why I think that kids can tell differences and similarities, with a little help they can make a difference a little bit well."

So then of course I started laughing -- my great accomplishment as a teacher was helping Miriam be able to tell differences and similarities when making comparisons (at least a little bit well.) Sometimes they just kill me!!! ;-D

(Here is her original, in all caps and purple, just like she turned it in to me.)
YO PIENSO QUE LOS NINOS SI PUEDEN HACER UNA DIFERENCIA PORQUE TAMBIEN NOSOTROS SOMOS NINOS Y MRS.GOODMAN NOS ENSENA HACER DIFERENCIAS Y CIMILITUDES PORESO YO PIENSO QUE LOS NINOS SI PUEDEN HACER DIFERENIAS PERO CON POQUITA AYUDA Y A LA MEJOR SI PUEDEN HACER DIFERENCIAS UN POQUITO BIEN.
