Fyo in his burka!

The other day was steaming hot. Muggy, wet heat, and I kept thinking of my Matthew who was shoveling rocks all day at work, as roofers sometimes do. Which made me wonder: which is better, shoveling rocks in extreme heat or in extreme cold? Which of course made me think of Siberia, which made me think of Russia's war with Afghanistan, which of course made me think of Fyo in his burka. (Has anything ever gone together more perfectly?)

A delighful wedding!

Sara's dress was gorgeous, and she looked like she should be in a catalogue! (And why is this hyperlinking? I have no idea!)Look at that smile! She was the definition of a blushing bride. You should've seen Dave's face when she walked down the aisle. If it was a cartoon, he would have had red hearts for eyes. (Speaking of the dashing groom, I have no pictures of them together, because they all turned out blurry! You will have to ask the Wattenater to see them I guess.)We had a lovely lovely time seeing old friends! And okay, this is for you Kelly. And for you, Megan. (Look at that belly!) (Dress altered by Betsy -- is she not fabulous?)

Deja vu!

I think we took this picture about a year ago, but it could almost pass for having been taken yesterday. Crazy! Anyway, I was looking for our pictures of our dads, and what better one to show who they are but this? They are always there when we need them. They have helped us in a thousand ways throughout this year and I really mean it when I say we'd be very lost without them. Thank you dad and Jon! Happy Father's Day!

(And happy Father's Day to Matt! May you smoke your chocolate cigar with the greatest of joy today.)

Oh ho ho, the joke would be on me...

Matt and I had this crazy plan a while ago. After we had told people I was pregnant and a few months had gone by, we wanted to send out April Fool's Day cards saying "JUST KIDDING! I'M NOT REALLY PREGNANT, I'VE BEEN WEARING A PILLOW ON MY BELLY FOR MONTHS!" Eventually obviously we knew people would figure it out, and then it'd fizzle into one of those weird jokes where you're like, "Huh... Why did they do that?" (The answer? Not sure... Probably why we didn't.)

Anyway, this last weekend I was really glad we didn't follow through with our devillish little plan. Why? Because Megan and Betsy threw me the most lovely baby shower, and these wonderful friends of mine cancelled other plans and came from afar to celebrate (including AKIKO all the way from SEATTLE! Three cheers for Akiko!) (Go ahead and cheer!) Anyway, so I realized: geez, it is a good thing I didn't claim to be pregnant and then claim to not be pregnant and then claim to be pregnant again, as we all know what happened to the boy who cried wolf. He got eaten. I wouldn't want a similar fate to befall me.

Anyway, the point of this really is to say thank you to Megan and Betsy for all your work and for what an adorable and fun shower it was, and thank you to all my fabulous friends for coming: it was so very very very nice to see you. So very nice. :-)
