i can hardly believe my eyes!

matt took me to the sequarium this weekend, which is on an island just above the keys. we saw sharks, and manatees, and most exciting of all, we saw killer whales, dolphins, and sea lions do shows! the killer whale weighed 7,000 pounds and was 20 feet long, and it was jumping up straight in the air, with even its tail out of the water! and a girl was standing on its nose! it was incredible! anyway, i cannot believe my luck, that i managed to take a picture showing all of these things at once. what a day!!!

The Everglades!

First, a disclaimer: the picture of monster-gator was not taken by us! That's the picture that was in circulation in email-forwards after the hurricane - according to some Reliable Source that gator was swimming around New Orleans after the storm. Anyway, because of this picture, we decided to stay away from the Everglades for a while - who knows what was out there???

Then it turned out that gator is actually in the Congo, not in Florida, which somehow made us feel safe heading out into the swamp. So, today we did!!! We went on a 5.5 mile trail, where we saw 10 gators! The part you see in the picture is an inlet in what they call a "wet prairie," but the farther you go out, the more swampish it gets. We saw the sword-reeds which are serrated and kind of clang together, and swamp ash, and all kinds of animals like herons, ibises, turtles, snakes, snails, fish, ducks, and of course the forementioned gators.

Matt even touched one!!! In retrospect we decided it was very crazy, maybe a fever-induced decision from the hot baking sun, I don't know. But he reached out his hand and touched a little baby gator, who I think was playing dead until that moment. Did he ever bolt then!!! We tried to stay away from the big ones, which is kind of hard given how narrow the trail is. It's so creepy when they slink under water and you don't know where they've gone! Anyway, we made it back in one piece and are really excited to go back!

in honor of political figures who don't come off as creepy

it is almost laughable how sinister cheney comes off. and now he had to go and shoot someone!

for someone who likes bush, but does not at all like what this administration has done, cheney makes a very good scapegoat. i have often wondered why they keep him around - maybe that's why? maybe they set up the whole "go f*** yourself" comment?

isn't she lovely?

i just realized i haven't shown you any pictures of kelly's wedding yet! oh no! this was actually taken a few months beforehand, right after we found The Dress. it's hard to tell in the picture, but it's very lacy! so pretty!!!

i also just wanted to share that i am very glad that kelly didn't marry her "first choice," the guy she always talked about marrying: alex trebek. ;-)

fernando is a great guy and a mean cook and i am glad to see them so happy!

mi casa es su casa!

matt and i are thinking about buying this house!!! this little beauty was built in 1926. in the 1100 square feet are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, so i think they must be kind of tiny - maybe if we got it we could take some walls down? i don't know. all i know is it is calling my name!!!!!!!! (do you hear it?)

who knew?

matt and i talk sometimes about what life would be like, if we could go back in time, with all the knowledge we have now. i would set that time machine to 1982. anyway, matt says if he could do college all over again, he would major in Science (not unlike Alan Polonia) and education and history and creative writing. SO just in case this does occur, i thought i would post up some of matt's art for you to see and enjoy, given that someday it may never have existed.
