as you may notice, these pictures don't really depict the move at all, which makes sense given that we were busy hauling boxes to and fro. here instead are a few shots from the day! including... lucas meeting his new kitties! (i guess technically they belong to fyo but i think he will share.) (i should also add that in the picture with the mirror, jon was carefully aiming it to shine a ray of light at his neighbor's window... lest you think based on his posture that he considered it heavy. no no!) (and finally let me say that contrary to what the first picture may suggest, matt does not have a mustache.)
"Now's not the time!" is our favorite quote from Lost. Remember that, when Sawyer was mourning Kate's death and Vincent kept leaping at him, trying to get him to play? (Or maybe that was just in the episode we made.) Similarly, this is perhaps untimely, in that it would make much more sense to put up pictures of our wonderful family and friends* who helped us move this weekend. But I saw these pictures I hadn't seen before, of the new face Tiny makes. So there you go! Very cute, very cute, my little rumplenose. *Actually just one friend! Thank you Beth! You are the bestth!
As you may have noticed from the previous post, Lucas doesn't fall asleep like a regular baby. His sleep is generally preluded by five or so minutes of wild kicking and chirping and laughing and smiles so big he looks like (in Matt's words) he might explode. So it is unusual to get to have the chance to hold him while he falls asleep. Last night was rare and oh so sweet.
I had all sorts of clever captions written up but I think I will skip around a bit and just say you may notice my dad looks very happy in the second picture, towing us upriver when the current got too strong (in that picture he had just pulled us past the fast part.) The last time he had pulled a boat upstream was in the Amazon! (Or was it the Guayas?) Either way, i felt like a queen of the Nile. (Matt used to call me a queen of the Nile when he would pull our kayak back to shore coming in from the ocean and I would repose on it.) The next one is my mom looking cuter than cute and Lucas in a cowboy hat. I suppose I should mention at this point that contrary to what the pictures suggest, Matt and my dad did row us pretty much the whole way. Next is the snapping turtle that Matt caught! He named it Leon and kept it safe from Fyo's pointy little teeth. (We also saw a duck and a bat! And the bat squeaked at us!) And then finally, there is Matt hitching the boat up in the part of the river I learned to swim in when I was a kid. Normally we always stuck around under the bridge. Ha! No longer!
In preparation for this special visit, Lucas spent the morning trying out different ways to comb his hair. He settled on a side-part with a swirl (not quite enough hair for an Elvis-like pompadour, he decided, to his chagrin.) When Sebastien arrived, he gave him an inspection. He determined that Sebastien is indeed a baby.
Me and Matt sometimes joke when the other is not where we expected them to be that we feared we had missed the rapture (ie. "I couldn't find you anywhere! I thought surely you had been raptured!" "No no, I was just on the couch.") Similarly, Lucas seems to have worried that he would be left behind. I went to the hallway to get some more boxes, and when I came back, there he was, neatly packed in a box lid!
So I labelled it with a marker so I wouldn't forget which one he is in, and hauled him out to the truck*.
What a helpful young man.
*Disclaimer: It is a joke. We are using a van for the move.
We are moving in a few weeks, making this our fifth move in five years! Leaving this apartment is quite different though, because this was Tiny's very first home. I went around today taking pictures of the place before I started packing, something I have never done before. It has been a good year. A very, very good year.
"it's so much better this way" which i wish i could link up here because it would be the most perfect caption for this picture. we have our felafel back, and we are all so pleased*. (thank you so much mom and dad for driving all the way up just to bring him home to us!!!)
although i can't link up his song, here's a classic from someone who knows what it is to miss someone.
*did you notice that fy and lucas are making the same face? oh my!
For example, you might run into someone you sorta kinda knew from the bus stop, but you are completely surprised because you are both in, say, New Hampshire, and so you both get all excited and hug? And then you realize that if you had run into each other at the gas station in your home town you would've just thrown each other a nod? Well, I think that is how Lucas and I were about our chance encounter in his crib. :) On another note, here is a surprise!
